Having trouble with Salt Corrosion?

January 31, 2010 by amabq

Every year $thousands of personal property is eaten away by salt corrosion, it could have been started by immersion, salt spray, storm winds or salt as an ice breaker for roads in winter. Effective salt removal is critical if you are going to hang onto your possessions for the long term.

Salt is unique in its ability to hang on to surfaces, combine this with its ability to attract moisture and it doesn’t matter how much fresh water you throw a it, a small amount will be left behind establishing a salt corrosion patch which will end up eating away what ever it is adhered to. So complete salt removal is mandatory, otherwise your precious RV,  tinny or expensive game fishing reels will slowly be eaten away.

Most of the salt corrosion goes on without us seeing it, your conscientious cleaning with large volumes of fresh water has washed salt into unseen places that are out of view. Now the salt commences its caustic action, quietly dissolving the metals it is in contact with.

So what is the answer to salt removal?

The key to comprehensive salt removal is salt neutralisation; making the salt totally inert and passive. This is best done with water soluble salt neutralising solutions, that react with the salt coating the seen and unseen surfaces, chemically changing it to stop the salt’s corrosive tendencies.

One of the most powerful products for doing this is Salt-X, they are economic and, highly concentrated and neutralize salt immediately. They also have the advantage of being able to penetrate deep into cracks and crevices killing the salt residue and halting the corrosive ability of the salt residue. A bonus is the coating that is left once the Salt-X product has air dried. This gives the treated equipment extra protection and makes salt removal simpler next time round.

So if you want to get serious about removing salt from your assets and equipment, start using Salt-X and halt the salt corrosion that is quietly destroying your belongings.
