Today many Americans are looking for ways to save money. With the state our economy is in, you can’t really find fault in them.  They look at cutting expenses.Possibly they might start to not go out as much. They are not purchasing things they have no use with. But what I would like to look at is a way that you probably haven’t thought too much about. That way you can find with your car.

When most people think of their cars and saving money it usually involves saving gas.  They think of ways they can spend less on gas.  But I would like to suggest if you maintain your car you can save more.  I know this for a fact running my San Diego auto repair company.

With most cars people usually don’t think of maintenance. Unfortunately the only time they do think about it, is when it is too late.  They wait for something to go wrong or break down. But from what I have witnessed doing this and waiting ends up making the auto repair expenses more costly.

Your brakes let examine for instance. If you do proper maintenance with your brakes you are able to avoid expensive repairs. If you do not do it, you will have some exspensive disc brakes that will need a repair.Or you may have to get the brake shoes replaced.By making sure that you use your brakes the right way and mainaining them you will save a lot of money.  So take it in to a brake shop like my San Diego brakes shop and you can find out if you need to do anything.  Thinks like making sure it has enough brake fluid.

Or people don’t get tuneups with their car.  They let the engine go.They do not do an oil change as frequently as they should. This leads to the engines running bad in your cars.  So bad that it won’t pass a smog test.  From what I have seen running a San Diego smog check shop, if you fail a smog test, this can lead to expensive repairs just to get it to pass.

But if you do the proper maintenance you will keep your car running well.  The engine will run smoother and properly.Go and wait too long and it will end up costing you more money in the long run.

Hopefully this shows you that you can save money by maintaining your car. Spend a little now to save more in the future.

Getting your car to last longer

It is a brand new time period.  The economy has changed.  With it, most Americans don’t have as much money to spend as before. In regards to the auto industry you are able to witness it.  With automakers constantly losing money, you know people aren’t buying big items as much anymore.

With that as a thought, a lot of Americans will be forced into having to keep their car a much longer times. When you do keep your car much longer it will need more maintenance. The better you are able to keep maintenance on your car will dictate how much longer it will last.  So I would like to offer a couple of tips from my experience owning a San Diego auto repair company.

One of the items that is easily overlooked is keeping your car running clean. Why does this matter?  Because if you don’t keep it running clean you could fail a smog test.If you can’t pass the smog test, this can be the start of some expensiver repairs.  I have seen this time and time again from doing smog test San Diego.

All you really need to do is to be sure that you change the oil on a regular schedule.Als be positive that it is tuned up for all the regular tune ups.

Second thing overlooked is brakes. You don’t really focus your attention on them. But everybody is positive that it is critical for safety. But if you are not diligent in caring for them, this will be an expensive repair.  I should know having to charge my clients to replace their brakes at my San Diego brakes shop.

Make certain that when you are using the brakes that you aren’t too hard on them. Be prepared for all your stops and then apply the brakes slowly. Also be sure there is enough bake fluids.  This can save you a lot of money in repairs.

Do these couple of things and you will save a lot of money in repairs.  When you have to keep your cars longer you will be glad you did.

Today a lot of Americans are searching for ways to spend less of their money.  With the way the economy is you can’t blame them. They try to cut expenses any way possible.  Maybe they go out less. They aren’t going out and buying things of no use.But I would like to examine a way that might not have crossed your mind. That way you can find with your car.

When people think of saving money with their cars, they think of gas. They try to come up with ways of spending less money on gas.But what I would like to point out that if your car is properly cared for you will save more in the long run.  I know this for a fact running my San Diego auto repair company.

With a lot of cars people in general don’t think of doing maintenance. Unfortunately, when they do find themselves thinking about it, it is because it is too late. They wait for the inevitable part breaking down or something going wrong. But from what I have witnessed doing this and waiting ends up making the auto repair expenses more costly.

As an example let look at your brakes. If you can keep your brakes properly maintained you can prevent expensive repairs. If you fail to, you are going to have disc brakes that will be expensive to repair.  Or you might have  to replace the brake shoes.By making sure that you use your brakes the right way and mainaining them you will save a lot of money.  So take it in to a brake shop like my San Diego brakes shop and you can find out if you need to do anything.  Thinks like making sure it has enough brake fluid.

Or a lot of people won’t take their cars for tuneups. They disregard the engine’s maintenance. They aren’t doing an oil change as much as they are supposed to. This ends up making your cars engine to start running badly. So poorly that it isn’t going to pass a smog check.  From what I have seen running a San Diego smog check shop, if you fail a smog test, this can lead to expensive repairs just to get it to pass.

But if you properly maintain your car you can keep it in good shape.  The engine will run smoother and properly.Wait longer then you should and you will end up spending a lot more money then expected.

I hope this shows you that maintaining your car is a great way to save money. Spend a little now to save more in the future.

How to prevent a used car costing you more money

Well the decade of wealth and exuberance is gone.  For most Americans luxuries like new cars are a thing of the past. Nowadays when a family needs a new vehicle they often look for used cars. This is clear by all of the money troubles the big three auto makers are having. There sales have gone way down.

But most families will still need some sort of transportation. But when families are on a tight budget they have to go with a cheaper choice.  That alternative is used cars.

As a San Diego auto repair shop owner I am asked to inspect some of these used cars.Because when you are making a purchase of a used car, the last thing you want is a lemon. So by making sure there is proper inspectino performed, you can avoid most expensive repairs.

So when you are examining the used cars, take in mind these 2 things to look for.First thing you have to check is the brakes.  We do San Diego brake in our shop.So I know from experience that having to repair brakes can be very costly. If you buy a used car where the brakes were not taken care of by the previous owner it can become expensive.  Last thing you want is to have to replace the entire braking system. So be sure you have good brakes.

Second, you want to ensure that the car is running clean.  In other words can it pass a smog test.  In my business I do San Diego smog check. The last thing you are going to want is the purchase of a used car that needs some expensive repairs.Especially if the repairs are going to involve any emmission problems.

If you purchase a car that can’t pass a smog test that isn’t good.It is an indicator that the car was not maintained.  Most likely they didn’t do oil changes or tuneups. These could be the beginning of a lot more issues down the road.

If you take the time to inspect a couple of items you will save a lot of money. By not doing proper checking you can fall into some huge repair bills.  When you are trying to save money I am sure you don’t want that.

Used Cars and Smog Tests

August 11, 2009 by amabq · Leave a Comment

In the economy we live in, most families are going to choose to buy a used car rather than a new car.

With that being the case, there will be a lot of issues concerning finances that go into place when making a used car purchase.

When I talk about the financial considerations, I am not just referring to the purchase price.

When you are a family looking to save money the last thing you want to do is buy a used car with extra expenses you weren’t prepared for.Especially if your budget did not have those extra expenses in it.

So one of the major things to be aware of is having to do a smog test. The last thing you will ever want to do is having to make expensive repairs because of a failed smog check.  I have seen too many used cars in my San Diego auto repair business have this happen.

So in buying the used car here are a few things you ought to consider.

In a law that was passed in 2005, 1976 cars or older don’t have to get a smog test.So if your vehicle is newer than that your car will need to be tested based on state emission laws. You can search about your state by contacting the Bureau
of Automotive repair at (800) 952-5210.

If you live in California and are buying a used car you may need a San Diego smog check.  If it is being sold or registerd in California for the first time, you will need a smog check.

Other than that, if the vehicle is going into it’s 5th or 7th year, a smog check will need to be done biennially.

If you purchase the vehicle in another state and live in California, you are going to have to find out if your car can pass the test.In general California is a lot more strict.

With that being the case, keep that on your mind when making a purchase of a new vehicle.

Costs for a smog test San Diego generally run between $30 to $80.  But as mentioned above, that is not the big cost. The biggest cost will be if costly repairs are needed.

So when purchasing the used car, make sure you find out if the vehicle has recently passed a smog test.

You don’t want to get any unexpected expenses cropping up all over when the idea was to save money when you bought that used car.

Follow these pieces of advice when making a purchase of a used vehicle and a lot of money will be saved.

The Importance of Maintaining Your Brakes

July 28, 2009 by amabq · Leave a Comment

One of the things we take for granted in this world is driving a car.  It has become routine and for some people a mindless activity. You see people everywhere taking on the phone, reading, even doing makeup, etc. while driving.

But if your put some thought into it, you will realize that your life is on the line everytime you step into a car.Whether it is your fault or someone else’s, accidents happen.

One of the causes of accidents, although rare, is brake failure.Your brakes is definitely one of the parts of your vehicle that is very important.  Unfortunately, out of sight is out of mind.  I have seen this firsthand with my San Diego brakes shop.

Your brakes qualifies definitely as being out of sight. But it is the one part of your automobile that you have to regularly maintain.  Whether you do it yourself, or hire a San Diego auto repair shop, you have to maintain it.After all, your’s and your family’s life and safety depends on it.

With that in essence being the case, maintaining your breaks can be quite easy.  You can either go to a brake repair shop or you can learn how to do it yourself.

Either way, the two main things you need to look at are the brake fluid level and the brake pad condition.  If you are diligent in maintaining these two points, you will keep your brakes safe.

When you go to check the brake fluid level, all you are going to have to do is check the fluid reservoir level. It is more often than not marked with a ‘min’ line and a ‘max line’.Make sure the fluids are not below the ‘min’ line and you should be okay.

Also check to make sure that your brake fluid is clear and has a yellow color to it.If it isn’t, you will have to perform a flushing of the brakes and put in new fluid.

Brake fluids are easy to maintain.  The more difficult part will be the brake pads.  For this, more often than not you will need a brakes repair company like my San Diego brake shop.

Most of the times your brake pads will let you know that they need to be replaced by making that loud screeching sound during braking.

If so, get them checked and if need be, replaced as soon as you can. Brake pads that are worn is hard to control or stop.

With your safety and your passenger’s safety directly effected, this is a no brainer. Get it checked and if need be, get your brakes fixed.

Following these maintenance steps will ensure your car is safe for all driving conditions.

Ways to pass a smog test

July 5, 2009 by amabq · Leave a Comment

In our day and age, the automobile is one of life’s necessities right up there with food and shelter. And with our natiional economy such as it is, everybody is trying to keep their cars longer.

Well when you find this happening and your car is older, it will be time to learn some things in regards to car maintenance.  I have learned them from owning a San Diego Smog Check shop

One of those things is the time your car needs a smog test. Until your car is officially seven years old, a majority of people won’t think about it.

But beware, if you fail the smog test, what could of been a simple $50 smog test could suddenly become a $300-$400 repair.

When you have to have your car pass the smog check so you can renew the registration, follow these bits of advice to ensure your car passes the smog check.

So before you visit a smog test San Diego only center follow these tips.

First, make sure your vehicle is running right. If your vehicle is not running correctly, get it to an autor service shop as soon as possible so they can see if their is a problem. Then have it fixed before your smog test.

Second, is an easy one but necessary, take your car for a drive.Remeber when you are trying to pass the smog check, you vehicle’s burning of the fuel needs to be efficient and produce as little smog as possible. When you don’t take the time to warm up the car, these causes the car not to have the correct combustion. If that occurs, you have a good chance to fail.  So just drive it for 10-15 miles and it will be running optimally when you take it in.

Third, start using fuel additives.  You do this whenever you fill your car up with gas.You just add some to the gas in the gas tank. What’s going to happen is this gets the emmission levels lower because it cleans the intake of your car and exhaust paths. This makes it possible for the fuel and air to freely flow.

Fourth, have your tires inflated to the proper pressure. This little known tip helps your car drive more smoothly and more accurately during the smog check. The overall emmissions improves in output because the engine is able to maintain a steady load.

Finallly, change your oil.If the oil in your car does need to be changed and is contaminated, this can be a cause of failure when you take it for a smog test. Contaminated oils are high in hydrocarbons and that could cause the failed test.

Follow these simple tips and you will surely pass your smog test with flying colors.  Take it from my experience running a San Diego auto repair service shop.

Signs of Dangerous Brakes

June 23, 2009 by amabq · Leave a Comment

There are a lot of parts to your car you need to keep an eye on. In today’s times when autos have everything automatically, most of the times your cars maintenance gets neglected.  Believe me I have seen it all owning a San Diego auto repair shop.

After all cars that were considered economic cars like Hyundai’s, are now state of the art machines, it’s not that hard to think nothing goes wrong.

That is a big mistake.  There are aspects of maintaining your car that still needs to be paid attention to.  Most people take care of oil changes and things like that.  Although that is vital for the life of your automobile, most people forget their brakes.  Which is important to the life of themselves and their family.

So let’s find out how to know when it is time to change your brakes when they have become unsafe.

First symptom of brakes that need to be changed are when they are grinding or scratching.  Usually this is a sign of the metal plates being gone that are supposed to hold the brake pads and now it rubs against the rotor.  This is a bad sign and you have to go and replace your brakes immediately.

Second thing you can look for is high pitch noises your brakes make or a loud screeching.  This is caused by a condition called glazed.  This occurs when someone always brakes too much and casues the rotors to heat up.  The rotors then are burned.

You fix this by going to a brake shop like my San Diego brake shop.

A third condition that happens to your brakes is vibrations.  If your drums and rotors are warped, there will be a vibration when you brake. This happens when their is too much heat and this causesthem to lose their shape.  When this happens, your rotor needs to be replaced.

The last problem to take notice of is when your brakes start to pull.  When you are braking, what will happen is your vehicle is pulled in one direction.  This occurs when the brake calipers are not being applied evenly.  A fluid leak is what causes this.  To determine which side the leak is coming from, a brake professional needs to take a look.  You take care of this by having the caliper replaced and getting all the air out of the brakes.

These are the usual problems that brakes have.  When this does happen you need a shop that fixes brakes like we fix San Diego brakes.

When you take into account it’s your brakes which keep you from accidents, maintaining this part of your car you don’t want to neglect.
